The most devastating disappointment religion dealt me as a young man, is that I expected it to embrace the weird and accept the odd, but instead it loved the same 10% of the population that everyone else loves. The worst disappointment as an artist has been to find that artists will burn each other at the stake over differences of ideology just as readily as everyone else will – and I had thought better of us.
