Our monsters want to devour us, sometimes, and striving to understand is not the same as putting one’s head in the lion’s mouth. The deepest challenge is when they really are *our* monsters – like family. They can be so close, so immediate, that understanding them is hampered by where we stand. Sometimes we understand our monsters by running away from them.
